Tempering & Heat Soaking
Tempering is a heat-treating process that creates internal stresses. It makes the glass considerably stronger and ensures that if it breaks, it crumbles into tiny pieces.
Glass processing sometimes creates tiny inclusions of nickel sulfide. Under extreme conditions, these inclusions can cause tempered glass to break. Heat soaking is another heat-treating process that helps reveal these inclusions.
Glass & Mirror Craft provides heat strengthening, tempering and heat soaking for most of its glass products. Tempering and heat soaking are performed to ASTM standards in a SGCC-certified facility.
Glass & Mirror Craft’s tempering oven accommodates glass up to 100" x 180". Our tempering capabilities include:
- 1/8" (in limited sizes) to 3/4" thick
- Soft or hard coat
- Low-iron, Low-E, tints, acid etch, ShowerGuard
- Most patterned and decorative glass
Our heat soaking capacity is up to 72" x 144".
